Hybrid Heat Pumps

Intelligent combination of two technologies

Hybrid heat pumps are suitable for use in new buildings as well as in existing buildings. They can ensure that the building id heated at the most favorable heat price at all times, as potential fluctuations in energy prices are easily responded to by the second heat generator. This function is integrated in the regulators of most hybrid heat pumps.

Hybrid heat pumps are heating systems with an electrically operated heat pump in combination with at least one other primary heat generator (e.g. oil, gas or solid fuel boiler) and a higher-level control system. Hybrid heat pumps are either available as a complete unit or assembled from single components.

Flow temperature of the heating system (heating and domestic hot water preparation):

If the heat pump can not provide the required flow temperature for the heating system alone all year round, the second heat generator is switched on. Instead of refurbishing the heating distribution system to reduce system temperatures, the hybrid heat pump is an economical alternative.

Heating capacity (heating and domestic hot water preparation):

If a heat pump can not provide the required heating capacity by itself all year round, the second heat generator serves to cover the peak load.

Heat source temperature:

If the minimum permissible heat source temperature is undercut (eg when using an air-to-water heat pump in colder regions), the hybrid heat pump system compensates for the temperature difference.
